Steve has had a busy year which started off with the Superbike Cup. The first round at Thruxton saw Steve take third place in an exciting season opener. At Oulton Park despite the rain Steve got an excellent start in the first race and finished a brilliant first place with a 14 second lead. He also finished 15th in the main Superbike race. Unfortunatly the re-run of Brands Hatch on 11th May saw Steve crash out in the first race despite having climbed to an impressive 13th in the main Superbike race. The prohibitive repair costs led the team to re-think its position.

The invitation to join MSS Discovery Kawasaki riding in the National Superstock 1000 provided a change in direction. The opportunity was also presented for Steve to ride the MSS Superbike at Knockhill as a stand in for Stuart Easton when he declared himself still unfit to race due to his wrist injury from Snetterton. Steve achieved impressive 11th and 12th places in the two Scottish rounds, having never been on the bike previously.

With Stuart Easton back to full health at Cadwell Park Steve turned his attention back to the Superstock bike but due to technical problems he qualified a disappionting 24th. Raceday saw a good start and Steve pulled up to finish 14th in a very shortened race.

Unfortunately due to further technical problems, Steve was unable to compete at Croft. With the end of the season looming, the Steve Mercer Racing team took the decision to enter the final Brands Hatch round of the National Superstock on the Sondel/Power2Connect Yamaha, where Steve achieved a very satisfactory 9th place finish out of the field of 40.

The year also saw Steve invited to the Isle of Man to consider entry for the TT in 2009 and he will be riding superbike for DMR racing team in the Motorcycle Grand Prix in Macau in November 2008
