Welcome to Steve Mercer Racing
Steve Mercer, motorbike mechanic from Maidstone, started the 2008 season on his Yamaha R1 in the British Superbike Cup which runs in the British Superbike Championship. Steve finished third in the first Cup race at Thruxton and won the first Cup race at Oulton Park, also finishing 15th overall in the British Superbike Championship. The re-run of Race 1 at Brands Hatch on 11th May saw Steve leading the Cup race for the first 8 laps before the lack of competitive machinery took its toll in the second half of the race and Steve crashed out one lap before the end.
Due to the prohibitive cost of running a Superbike, Steve was forced to re-think his options after Brands and following discussions with MSS Discovery Kawasaki entered the National Superstock Championship for MSS Discovery Racing. As well as riding Superstock, Steve also got the opportunity of riding the MSS Superbike at Knockhill.
For the final round of the season Steve was on the Sondel/Power2Connect Yamaha in the National Superstock 1000 achieving a very satisfactory 9th place.
Steve wishes to thank the continued support from Sondel Sport, Planet Lazer of Canterbury, Arai, Phoenix Distributions, Power2Connect, LH Group Services, Oil Analysis, Apache Customs, Putoline Oil, Hottrax and MBC Despatch.
